Where did the ideas for these CD's come from?
There is a lot of interest in Australia in the idea of a preventive approach to mental health. My background as a teacher lead me to think that one way to help children develop the skills they need to cope effectively in a complex world was to use their natural behaviours. Most children enjoy popular music of various genres. The team thought about the type of music that boys and girls enjoy and used these musical styles to promote our mental health message.

What is the theoretical basis to these songs?
We have taken an evidence-based approach in developing these songs and have researched the recent scientific literature on mental health to develop the theoretical basis for each song. For example, Breathe Deep is a song designed to help children who are anxious learn to breathe more slowly. The evidence suggests that many people who experience physiological symptoms of anxiety breathe quickly and shallowly, which can result in dizziness.
