A positive approach to mental health

Everyone talks about a positive approach to mental health.
positive spin is doing something about it.
Mental health problems account for a significant portion of the burden of disease and cost millions of dollars in Australia annually.
Depression and anxiety are the most common disorders in the western world.
It has always been said that prevention is better than cure, so how do we go about preventing the development of these types of mental health problems.

1. Start while they are young
Depressed and anxious adults often describe dysfunctional coping strategies that go back to when they were quite young.

2. Make it fun
Enjoyable activities tend to be repeated. Repetition leads to learning. Make it fun and children won't notice that it is good for them.

3. Keep it simple
As adults we are aware of the complexities of the world that we live in. However, if we want to help our children learn to cope effectively in a complex world, we need to keep it simple for them. So with these points in mind the team at positive spin has set about creating CD's for children to help to inoculate them against the dysfunctional behaviour that often leads to mental health problems in later life.
