Writing
your own visualisation text
The scripts for Take 5 were written after discussions and trials
with hundreds of children. But I believe anyone can write their
own visualisation text. Take 5 has karaoke tracks so you can add
your own text either live or pre-recorded.
+ Start by asking kids about their favourite "safe", "secret"
or "relaxed" place.
+ Use a generalised one that appeals to a few children.
+ Use powerful visual images that they are likely to have experienced.
+ Use language that is calm and simple, yet positively emotive.
+ Don't go in for long narratives to begin with- make it more like
a brief poem
+ Employ all the senses
+ Be non-specific. "You smell a flower"- let the listener
visualise the type & aroma.
+ Bring the listener back from the journey
+ Allow time to reflect and discuss how it was for them
+ Don't be afraid to repeat words- experiment
+ Relax yourself! Children are generally honest & forgiving.
+ Ask them what worked & what didn't. They'll tell you!
+ Let us know about your successes & problems
GOOD LUCK and DONT STRESS!
